Anthony Gormley and Andy Goldsworthy In the Charente S W France

mardi, juin 11th, 2013

Yes, incredibly, less than an hour away from Les Trois Chenes B&B and holiday cottage in Limousin, South West France, there is a sculpture park with works by these great British sculptors.

There are many wonderful gardens in Limousin, the Charente and the Dordogne, but L’Abrégement at Bioussac in the Charente region of France is a garden with a difference. The old house and chapel are lovely and are framed by stables and barns. The courtyard garden is formal and beautiful and the walls of the barns are clothed in climbing roses. But continue past the courtyard and you’ll find first of all a working vegetable garden  with a beauty all of it’s own, and better still, a secret white garden with a hidden pond. Beyond this is a park, a woodland, and several exceptional works of sculpture. This is a wonderful garden with some impressive, large scale works of art.

Other works of art are by Christian Lapie and Joel Shapiro.
